AWRA 2015 President’s Letter

March 11, 2015

Dear Water Resources Professional:

On behalf of the Colorado Section of the American Water Resources Association (AWRA), I would like to invite you to become a member or renew your membership with the Colorado Section. The primary objectives of our organization are to promote the advancement of water resources research, planning, development, management, and education and to provide a common meeting ground for people concerned with Colorado’s water resources. In order to advance our mission, we hold a variety of events each year including monthly luncheon presentations, field trips, student/professional networking events, and our annual symposium. The Colorado Section also has a very strong history of promoting water resources education by awarding the Richard Herbert Memorial Scholarship each year to deserving students studying water resources. Since 1991, member donations and proceeds from the Annual Symposia have funded scholarships for 80 students attending Colorado colleges and universities, totaling over $148,000.  This academic year, the Colorado Section has selected five scholarship recipients who will receive a total of $10,000. More information about our scholarship program can be found on our website (

We are pleased to announce that we will be returning to Mount Vernon Country Club on Friday, May 1st for our annual symposium. The title of this year’s symposium is Colorado 20/20…Clearly Seeing our Future.” The focus of this year’s symposium will be on challenges and opportunities in Colorado water that are likely to occur over the next 5 to 6 years.  We will put our heads together to share lessons learned and discuss how to efficiently meet the State’s upcoming water needs.  Please look for more information on our website and via our email announcements in the coming weeks.  Please follow this link to register for the 2015 symposium:

The Colorado Section 2015 dues will remain the same as the past three years. We feel that the membership fees are an exceptional value considering all of the quality programming provided by the Colorado Section. Your membership supports our mission by allowing us to continue and expand our programs and scholarship donations and provides you with a unique opportunity to network with other water resources professionals and expand your knowledge of issues relevant to Colorado. If you have already become a member or renewed your membership for 2015, thank you.  Please follow this link to renew your membership:

In addition to renewing your membership or becoming a new member, we urge you to make a voluntary contribution to the Colorado Section’s Rich Herbert Scholarship to support our local students as suggested on the attached membership renewal form. For any individual or corporation donating $500 or more to the scholarship fund, special recognition will be given at our upcoming Annual Symposium and you will receive advertisement on our website. Additionally, for any individual or corporation donating $2,000 or more, a scholarship in the amount donated will be given in the name of the donor. All donations earmarked solely for the Scholarship fund are tax deductible.

The AWRA Colorado Section’s elections for Board members and director-at-large positions will be completed electronically this year.  Electronic ballots will be emailed to you by March 24th via QuestionPro.  Please complete your ballot no later than April 3, 2015. The results will be announced at the Annual Symposium and will be provided on the Section’s website following the Symposium.  The following candidates are running for board positions (candidate biographical sketches will be posted to prior to the distribution of ballots):
