Interest Based Negotiation and Collaborative Decision Making in Colorado’s Water Community
AWRA Colorado Section, January 19, 2016

Todd Bryan, Senior Program Manager with CDR Associates

The need for thoughtful collaboration around water in the West is more critical than ever.  This is especially true for Coloradoans facing the challenge of crafting definitive actions to address issues laid out in the Colorado Plan.  The successful use of collaborative decision making to tackle complex water issues requires acknowledging diverse values and competing interests.  Leaders and participants in the water community can benefit immensely from learning and practicing interest based negotiation and the facilitation of meaningful collaboration and consensus-building.

This talk will explore how water resource professionals can use interest based negotiation, collaboration and consensus-building in the design and execution of water projects.  Professionals will be introduced to practical tools and perspectives they can use in their day-to-day work and learn about ways they can move the collaborative capacity of Colorado’s water community forward.
