“Here is a land where life is written in water.”
-Thomas Hornsby Ferril poem on the rotunda of the Colorado State Capitol.
2012 is a momentous year for numerous Colorado water entities and many organizations are banding together to make this year a special celebration of Colorado water, called Water 2012. Despite the sometimes contentious nature of water in the west, the spirit of collaboration is strong with this effort to raise awareness and appreciation of water in Colorado.
The official kick off happened during the 2012 Colorado Water Congress in Denver, and many events are already underway. Governer Hickenlooper chimed in with a video introduction to Water 2012. A large part of the effort behind Water 2012 is communication about water and all of the planned activities that will engage Colorado citizens from all walks of life. However you choose to get your information, there is likely to be a Water 2012 news and events outlet for you:
• Coalition Meetings
The goal behind Water 2012 is to involve Coloradans in opportunities to learn about and celebrate the influence water has on our state. Some of the exciting Water 2012 activities include:
• Water 2012 Book Club
• Water Speaker Series
• Library and Muesem Display
• School Events (K-12 and colleges)
• Contests, including “ADay Without Water” video contest
